Dry-type vs oil-filled transformer — which is better?

Oil-filled

Good for large power and distribution ratings, high efficiency and long life, but require oil quality management, fire containment and occasionally a breather/conservator.

Dry-type

No oil, so fire-safe, low maintenance, no leak or environmental risk, and often quieter — but at larger footprint and generally lower maximum rating, with higher-class insulation (B/F/H).

Choosing
