How it is measured

The degree of polymerisation (DP) of a paper sample indicates its strength; furan compounds in the oil indicate paper aging. A DP near 200-250 is a common replacement criterion.

Practical life

The insulation life is a temperature-dependent exponential: modest temperature reductions dramatically extend it. Keeping the unit cool, dry and free of oxygen extends the life.
