Oil-impregnated-paper (OIP) bushings use a vacuum-dried paper core impregnated with oil; resin-impregnated-paper (RIP) bushings use resin-impregnated paper with no free oil, making them a common, more compact choice for sealed and GIS applications.

How do I select a transformer bushing?

By rated voltage and BIL (impulse withstand), rated current, creepage/pollution class, installation orientation, altitude derating and PD limits — and by compatibility with the fluid or gas above and below the bushing.

Why monitor bushing power factor?

Capacitance and tan-delta (dissipation factor) drift are early signs of moisture or contamination, so monitoring taps let operators catch problems before failure.
