Frequently asked

What does ONAN mean?

Oil-natural / air-natural cooling: the oil circulates by natural convection and heat leaves through the tank and radiators by natural convection and radiation.

How are radiators sized?

They are sized to reject the transformer total loss at the design temperature rise, providing enough area and free air flow for the chosen cooling code (ONAN/ONAF/OFAF).

What is the difference between ONAF and OFAF?

ONAF adds forced-air (fans), while OFAF forces both the oil and the air, supporting higher and more uniform winding temperature in very large transformers.
