Module 1 — Fleet risk and replacement

A fleet decision is not a single-unit design calculation. This module separates condition, consequence, and the choice to maintain, repair, or replace.

Free module. This page is free to read. It does not ask you to sign in. It does not offer a class or a call. Use the edition of each standard named in the contract. Questions: hello@transformerpath.com.

Volume 17 is utility asset management: risk, intervention, and replacement across a fleet. This module is the distinction a design calculation does not make. A unit can be in poor condition and still be the wrong unit to replace this year, if the consequence of its failure is low and a neighbour’s consequence is high. The reverse is also true. Condition alone is not a ranking.

Three different questions

Condition is what the tests and the history say about this serial number. Consequence is what happens to the network, to safety, and to supply if this unit fails without warning. Intervention is the action you can actually buy: maintain, repair, refurbish, add a spare, or replace. A spreadsheet that sorts units by age and replaces the oldest has answered none of the three. Age is a clue to paper condition only when temperature, moisture, and loading went with it. Two units of the same year can be in different states.

A design engineer’s calculation tells you whether a specified unit can be built and tested. An asset manager’s calculation tells you which installed unit to spend on. Mixing them produces a fleet plan that reads like a design report and does not say what will be done on site this year. The paid modules work the fleet questions. This module only insists they stay separate from the kilovolt-ampere calculation.

A ranking you can explain

Write the consequence in the language of the network: which other unit picks up the load, how long a replacement takes, and who is at risk if the tank fails violently. Write the condition from named tests and a trend, not from a colour on a dashboard. Write the intervention as a scope with a test record at the end. A rank that cannot be traced to those three lines will not survive the next person who opens the file. This course does not supply a score, a weighting, or a software model. Those are the owner’s method. What the method must not do is hide a missing test behind a precise-looking number.

Worked fleet rankings stay on the paid plan. This page does not score a utility’s units.

Module 1 is free. The rest of this course stays on the paid plan. The plan is a one-time payment for 12 months of access, with no auto-renewal. This page does not offer a class or a call.
