Free module. This page is free to read. It does not ask you to sign in. It does not offer a class or a call. Use the edition of each standard named in the contract. Questions: hello@transformerpath.com.
Volume 3 is factory testing, from the measurements made on every unit to the investigations made when a design is new. This module separates three words that invitations like to blur: routine, type, and special. It does not write a test plan for a serial number. That plan stays on the paid plan, judged against the edition the contract names.
Three lists, not one phrase
A routine test is the list performed on every unit of that contract. It is how this serial number shows that it meets the rating: ratio, winding resistance, losses, impedance, and the dielectric checks the chosen standard puts on the routine list. A type test is evidence about the design. Temperature rise, and a lightning impulse when the standard places it there, are the usual examples. One unit’s type test can cover a design. It does not, by itself, re-prove the next serial number. A special test is what the contract adds: a short-circuit withstand test, a sound-level measurement, a zero-sequence measurement, or another item the base list does not contain. An invitation that says “full factory tests” has not chosen any of the three lists.
IEC 60076-1 names the general test structure in IEC practice. The dielectric tests sit in IEC 60076-3. IEEE C57.12.90 is the test code many IEEE contracts use beside IEEE C57.12.00. The two codes are not a single merged list. A ratio limit, a loss tolerance, and the order of dielectric tests have to be read from the edition you named. This module does not invent a combined table.
What the report has to show
A number without its conditions is not a result. Resistance needs the oil temperature at which it was measured, because copper resistance moves with temperature and load loss is corrected to a reference temperature. Load loss and impedance need the current they were taken at, and the correction to rated current if the test was run lower. No-load loss needs rated voltage and rated frequency. A report that prints only the raw meter reading has not yet met the guarantee. The tolerance that applies is the one in the contract’s edition, or the tighter band the contract wrote in its place.
- Routine means this serial number. Type means this design. Special means the contract asked for it.
- “Full tests” is not a list. Name the standard, the edition, and any special items.
- Correct load loss to the reference temperature. Do not file the cold reading as the guarantee.
- Do not merge an IEC list and an IEEE list into one column without saying which rule won.
The sequence of a real factory day, including which dielectric test comes last, is a later module and stays on the paid plan.
