How Do You Compare Transformer Quotes?
Check compliance first
Confirm each bid meets the same specification: MVA, voltage, impedance, vector group, losses, cooling, standards and tests. A quote that does not comply is not comparable.
Capitalise the losses
The no-load and load losses have a real energy cost over the life, often capitalised as a loss-evaluation factor. A unit with lower losses can justify a higher price.
Consider TCO and risk
Add lead time, warranty, spares, delivery, the manufacturer track record, and any installation/commissioning support. A longer lead time or a weak after-sales offer can be more costly than a small price saving.
Make a clean comparison table
Untracked fields — tappings, test levels, tank/fittings, noise, transport — can hide differences, so build a clear side-by-side before you decide.
