What is a transformer condition assessment?

Gather the data

Collect the DGA trend, oil tests (moisture, acidity, BDV, furans), insulation results (IR, power factor, PD), FRA (if done), the tap-changer, the loading and fault history, and the inspection findings.

Score the condition

Assess each part (windings, oil, core, bushings, tap-changer, tank) against limits and trend, and combine the results into an overall condition and risk score.

Recommend

Based on the score, decide to continue, maintain (oil treatment, drying), refurbish, or replace, and plan the action with a risk-based priority.
