How is a transformer tanked and assembled?

Lowering the active part

The dried core-and-windings (active part) is carefully lowered into the cleaned tank, with the leads and connections aligned.

Fitting the components

The bushings, on-load tap changer, conservator, breather, valves, gauges and cooling are installed, and the tank is sealed leak-tight.

Filling with oil

The tank is evacuated and filled with degassed, dry oil under vacuum to remove air and moisture, then the unit is topped up and checked for leaks and level.
